3170 wlan + freetz + pppoe + usb-storage = no go
In short there are two choices: a) Use the avm kernel. This is all good and well, but since freetz replaces the usb-storage or ext2 driver with its own (symbol-less) version, you can't use usb-storage and thus no usb-root (to provide an external rootfs). b) Use the replaced kernel. This works perfectly well, except for one little bit: A few moments after you get the [kdsld_token] in the ps w output (but exactly at the time the "DSL" LED starts lighting continously, i.e. "we are online!"), the box stalls completely, no debug output is given and after a 3-4 seconds of stalling the watchdog reboots the box.. again and again, if you let it.
To answer these kinda questions right away: No, I don't have a console cable. No, I don't have soldering equipment ATM. Yes, I have checked out a clear trunk for each of those versions and compiled each of those from scratch everytime with exactly the "same" .config.. with an extra menuconfig run and manual surface checking. Yes, I can tell you what the selected options were: 3170 WLAN, replace kernel, packages: standard→dropbear, testing→usb-root 0.2 .
I really hope this is just a major mixup by me.. or did noone yet try to use usb-storage on a freetz-enabled version of the AVM firmware and kernel, while using the fritzbox as a router that does the dsl-bridging and pppoe tunneling, too?
Also there is the (probably related) "issue" that 3170 WLAN has a (49.)04.58 firmware, but uses the 04.57 sources (04.58 aren't available on the FTP though).
